Monticello FFA members advance in contest

MONTICELLO - The Monticello FFA Chapter hosted the FFA District 13 Speaking Contest on Jan. 23.

FFA members from Evansville, Monroe, Juda, New Glarus, Belleville, Albany, Parkview, Brodhead and Monticello competed against one another in various speaking events including creed, prepared, parliamentary procedure, extemporaneous, quiz bowl, job interview and discussion meet.

Monticello FFA members that participated included Kody Klitzke, Amy Silver, Clare Gietzel, Alma Baumgartner, John Zuber, Lucas Marty, Rebekah Henson, Paige Dilley, Hunter Pratt, Brianna Roesslein, Mackenzie Zanow, Brooke Bidlingmaier, Allison Gafner, Emilie Gietzel, Megan Lehr, Brie Graber, Brittany Disch, Marissa Peterson and Madee Holtz.

Monticello students who qualified for sectionals include Lehr and Gietzel, who earned first and second place in creed speaking; Bidlingmaier, second in the prepared speaking; Gietzel, second in the Job interview contest; and the Monticello Parliamentary Procedure team, consisting of Henson, Silver, Gietzel, Marty, Baumgartner, Zuber and Klitzke, who placed first in their contest area.

Sectionals will be held in Monday, March 18 in Monroe.

In addition to the district speaking contest, the chapter celebrated National FFA Week during the week of Feb. 18 through Feb. 22. On Monday, members competed in a variety of games known as "Agricultural Olympics," and dressed in red, white and blue for President's Day. On Tuesday, members were allowed to drive their tractors to school and pedal their tractors to class, eat pizza during lunch and dress like a farmer for the day. FFA Pride Day was on Wednesday, where members dressed up in official dress and held a Staff/Faculty Appreciation Social in the Agriculture Room after school. To end the FFA Week, members dressed like hunters and played FFA Family Feud during Agriculture classes.
