MONROE - Church Women United of Green County will present a World Day of Prayer service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St. in Monroe, to which the public is invited.
Women from several different churches in the area will participate in the prayer service, which was written by women of Guyana for families in need worldwide. The theme is "God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding." The Rev. Gretchen Sylvester, Associate Pastor of St. John's UCC, will be the local speaker addressing this theme.
An offering will be taken to support the work of World Day of Prayer and help meet the needs of families in regions of turmoil worldwide. Refreshments will be served after the program by members of the host church.
The Guyanan women developed the 2008 WDP theme to express the awesomness of God's creation and show that we can learn from it. As we survey God's work, we are filled with awe at the beauty and diversity, and we begin to understand that we are all called to care for all of creation.
