Monroe: Volunteer tax aide counselors now available

MONROE - Volunteer tax aide counselors trained and certified by the IRS will provide one-on-one assistance helping older low- to moderate-income individuals complete their tax returns.

This includes tax forms 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ, schedules A, B, C-EZ and D and the Wisconsin tax forms 1, 1A, W1-Z, and the Homestead Tax Credit Claim. Counselors can also determine whether or not individuals have a filing requirement or are eligible for earned income credit or any other credits that would be applicable.

Persons using this service should bring copies of their previous year's tax returns as well as their W-2s, 1099 forms, Social Security earnings and other relevant materials for 2007.

If filing a Homestead Credit Claim, a 2007 property tax bill and/or rent certificate is also needed.

In Green County, trained AARP volunteers are available to help with tax form completion. Volunteers prepare Homestead forms as well as income tax forms. This service is free of charge and begins in February. AARP has tried to make outreach accessible to everyone. Home visitors are available for homebound individuals.
