MONROE - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312 and its Auxiliary celebrated VFW National Home for Children Awareness Week, March 23-29. The National Home for Children, a non-profit child-care agency in Michigan, aids military and war veteran families and children nationwide with help and hope. The National Home Helpline, (800) 851-0238, offers nationwide assistance and connection to supportive services in their own community. Intensive case management support helps resolve pressing issues. Social workers at the National Home have an extensive knowledge of veteran's services and special connections which they utilize to provide help to the veteran community.
Active-duty military families, as well as families of war veterans, can find themselves in situations and need somewhere to turn for help. For example, a deployed service member who is also a single parent may place their child(ren) in the National Home's residential program when their family plan falls through. During the time of deployment, the service member can rest assured knowing their children are receiving proper care while they are overseas. Upon returning to the United States, the families reunite.
