MONROE - Computer Heroes and Resource Solutions will be offering computer and electronics recycling on Saturday, May 3, to residents of the City of Monroe. Unwanted computers will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon at Computer Heroes located at 132 West 6th Street in Monroe.

Electronics become outdated or obsolete after only a few years. Each computer component may contain hazardous materials, such as mercury, lead, and cadmium, and if improperly disposed of, can pollute the environment. However, resources within the computer and electronics can be used for the future, and in the long run, help protect the environment. At Resource Solutions, all computers and electronics accepted for recycling will be recycled for their base metals, glass, and plastics.

There will be no charge for: LCD (Flat Screen) computer monitors, computer mice, CPU's, laptops, keyboards, computer cords, circuit boards, UPS power strips, scanners, printer cables, printers, telephones, cell phones, fax machines, VCR's, DVD players, and stereo equipment.

Fees for other items are:

$10 fee: CRT computer monitors and small copiers

$25 fee: large copiers

$20 fee: small television (under 19")

$30 fee: mid-size televisions (19" to 30")

$50 fee: large televisions (over 30")
