MONROE - The Southwest Wisconsin Regional Financial Office (RFO) of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans announces the Green County Chapter has earned a Chapter of Excellence award for its volunteer contributions to the local community in 2007. The award acknowledges the chapter's leadership and members for organizing and implementing fund-raisers and service projects to address area needs.

"Thrivent Financial members show their care and compassion for others every day by participating in outreach projects through their chapter," said Steve Schultz, manager of Lutheran community services for the Southwest Wisconsin RFO of Thrivent Financial. "The Chapter of Excellence award is one way to recognize and thank the Green County Chapter for all their volunteer work and service in 2007."

Eleven out of 26 Thrivent Financial chapters in the region earned the excellence award in 2007. From holding a community-wide auction to raise funds for a child with cancer to building a handicap-accessible play area at a local park, our members helped to make a difference every day through our chapter system. Forty-four chapter activities were conducted by the Green County Chapter, resulting in 25,304 volunteer hours. Funds raised by these local teams totaled $63,074, which were combined with $25,022 from Thrivent Financial for a total of $88,096 that went to assist people in need in Green County.

As a faith-based membership organization, Thrivent Financial creates, manages and funds outreach programs that support congregations, schools, nonprofits and individuals in need. Each Thrivent Financial member is a member of one of 1,364 local chapters though which the member may join a variety of volunteer efforts, fund-raising activities and educational programs.

Green County's 2007 Chapter leadership board was comprised of Joyce Drewes, president; Rev. Dennis Perger, vice president; Ted Huebner, financial director; Barb Unke, records director; Beth Faith, congregational service team director; Gene Christensen, asst. financial director; Paul Bloedorn, financial representative advisor.
