MONROE - An identification program for all market lambs and goats to be exhibited at the 2008 Green County Fair will be conducted on Saturday, May 3, at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe. All lambs and goats will be identified between 10 a.m. and noon in the south end of barn #7. Only lambs and goats that are identified on this date will be eligible for exhibition in the market wether classes and to sell the lambs at the Green County Fair Meat Animal Auction.
All market lambs and goats that will be shown at the Green County Fair will be given ear tags. A performance lamb class will again be held at the 2008 fair.
Market lambs for the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair can also be identified and weighed in on May 3 as Green County is also hosting a regional weigh-in for state fair lambs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the same site. There will be a $10 charge per animal to cover the cost of DNA testing. The exhibitor or the parent must be present to sign and verify the DNA sample. For more information, contact Mark Mayer, UW-Extension Dairy and Livestock Agent, at 328-9440.
