MONROE - Area dogs can put their PAWS ON PARADE this September by marching with the Green County Humane Society in The Swiss Colony Cheese Days Parade Sunday, Sept. 21.

GCHS is seeking 150 dogs and their human companions to march in its PAWS ON PARADE entry during the popular Cheese Days parade. GCHS hopes to have at least 150 dogs in honor of Monroe's Sesquicentennial being marked this year.

Dogs of all breeds, sizes and shapes are invited to join the fun. Canine participants will be divided by category into four different waves for the parade:

• Dogs currently being sheltered at the GCHS animal shelter;

• Alumni dogs that have been adopted through the GCHS;

• Marching dachshunds;

• Support dogs (dogs from the community marching in support of the GCHS mission).

Registration forms for the parade will be available online and at the shelter in June. People who don't have a dog but would like to participate may volunteer to walk one of the shelter dogs.

GCHS operates a no-kill animal shelter at 1500 6 1/2 Ave. in Monroe. More information about the shelter, making financial contributions and animals needing adoption is available on the GCHS Web site at greencountyhumane.org.
