MONROE - Papa Don's Horseshoe Saloon, 1901 10th St., Monroe, along with the help of staff and customers, will host a benefit on Saturday, April 12, to help the animals currently being sheltered at Green County Humane Society.
Festivities beginning at 2 p.m. include raffles, door prizes, food and drink.
The entertainment lineup includes Jackie Lee Karaoke, the band "Jrs Jammers," and finishing out the night, DJ Ray-Ray from Sound Source Entertainment.
The Green County Sheriff's Department seized 52 animals Feb. 24 from a small farm in Juda, including 20 dogs which were immediately placed with the humane society. The animals are 5 months to 10 years in age.
The humane society is a no-kill shelter and as such, they depend on the community to help finance the care of these animals until proper homes are found.
Current costs to maintain these animals on a daily basis is $30 per day, per animal. This includes staff hours, food supplies, shelter, etc.
All but six of the seized animals have pending applications for adoption. However the resources of the GCHS have been depleted to such an extent that they are having difficulty caring for the remaining animals in the shelter.
As a result, GCHS is seeking donations of any kind from the community. Some examples are: door prizes, finger foods, beverages, monetary donations. For more information, call (608) 214-6332.
