Monroe: Concerts on the Square start June 26 downtown

MONROE - For 2008, Concerts on the Courthouse Square will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of June, July and August. Bring your chairs to the north side of the Square and enjoy the free concert series. Scheduled performers include:

• June 26 - The Stateline Playboys - sponsored by Duxstad, Vale and Bestul and The Monroe Fund. "A trip through rock and roll history" - Rock and roll from the 50's through the 90's with a little "Do you remember when?"

• July 10 - Saxtet Plus - sponsored by Duxstad, Vale and Bestul and The Monroe Fund. A 15-piece Big Band will blast the Square and get you moving to the always popular big band sound.

• July 24 - Clear Blue Betty. Back by popular demand, this light rock group has earned numerous awards and has a strong local following.

• August 14 - Beal Street Jazz - Beal Street will jazz up the concert series and get feet tapping.

• August 28 - TBA - Watch for something a little different, as we get closer to August.

Café Claudine, The Garden Deli, and Turner Hall will offer a variety of box lunches to take out or you can 'eat in' off their varied menus.

Chocolate Temptation and Ruf's Confectionery will be open before, during, and after the concerts for delectable treats and snacks.
