MONROE - Monroe Clinic wrapped up its recent Mission and Values Celebration by offering support to a special camp that supports young people affected by cancer through loved ones.

"Over 2,000 items were donated by Monroe Clinic employees to help support Camp Angel, which originated in St. Germain," said Jan Sanders, Monroe Clinic's Director of Mission and Services. "It is a remarkable organization that tends to the distinctive needs of children and teens, offering support and friendship when they need it most."

The items donated to Camp Angel were guided by a wish list which suggested a diverse range of items from phone cards to crossword puzzle books. Sanders explained charitable support is a key part of the annual Mission and Values Celebration. Past service projects have supported global charities, such as Heifer International and Shoes for Orphans, as well as local efforts, such as area food pantries.

The week-long event also included an official proclamation by Mayor Ronnie Marsh of Monroe, recognizing Feb. 4-10 as "Monroe Clinic Mission and Values Week." This is the eighth year Monroe Clinic has joined other ministries sponsored by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes to celebrate the annual event. The week is designated as a special time for employees, volunteers, students, and trustees to step back and reflect upon the meaning and purpose of what they do.

Another highlight of Mission and Values week was a "Secret Stars" team activity.

"Each team was given the name of another team and secretly sent gifts of affirmation or appreciation throughout the week, along with clues as to who their secret star was," Sanders said. "On Friday, the teams revealed who they were sending treats, poems, or gifts to while offering a final word of thanks to the other team for being part of the Monroe Clinic family."

Many departments celebrated the week's events by decorating their work area according to this year's theme: "Mission: Mapping our Future." Other events included a mission awards luncheon, employee appreciation cookout, and opening and closing ceremonies.
