Monroe Bible Church seeks food volunteers
Monroe Bible Church
Jason Elgin, Jack Ferreri, 8, and Lexie Elgin, 9, all of Monroe and with the Monroe Bible Church, measure food to pack for children in Haiti April 22, 2018.

MONROE — Monroe Bible Church will again participate in the OneMeal Food Packing event for the fourth year in a row to help feed children overseas.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Monroe Middle School gymnasium and all ages are welcome to pack as long as they can.

The group is normally finished by noon.

The church has raised $5,400 to purchase ingredients from Kids Around The World, a Christian organization based out of Rockford, Illinois, that helps provide food and education to impoverished children overseas.

The money will cover shipping and transportation for 20,000 meals. The food will then be shipped to Kenya, Eswatini, Haiti or Cuba.

The meal preparation only involves cooking with boiling water and is served at Care Point Centers where hungry children receive food and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Each meal costs 27 cents and ingredients are packed in a family friendly, assembly-line style. Last year, about 86 people from different age groups participated and more are welcome.

Those who wish to donate financially can contact the Monroe Bible Church office at 608-325-3966, or email office@monroebiblechurch.org. The deadline is April 21.
