MONROE — The Behring Senior Center in Monroe has released its April 2022 classes and events.

To register for events or programs, call (608) 325-3173 or stop by the front desk.

Residents are welcome to pick-up their copy of “THE RED BRICK AGENDA” at the Behring Senior Center to get more information. They are found inside the Front Lobby door in a basket or in the Wellness Center just inside the door.


VETERAN’S LUNCHEON 

For all veterans who are 55 years of age and over!

Wednesday, April 6th from 10:00am until 12:00pm. This month, we’re changing it up a bit and serving breakfast for lunch! Plus, we are starting an hour earlier. Spouses are welcome and please do not arrive before 9:45am.  We will be having breakfast casserole, sausage, cinnamon rolls, and beverages. Donation of $2.00 and PLEASE CALL 325-3173 so we know how much food to prepare. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED!!! Thank-you.


EXERCISE CLASSES WILL BE IN THE GYM

Please bring a change of shoes to wear in the gym. Classes are as follows:

Fitness First is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 to 9:15am.

Men’s Exercise is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 to 10:15am.

Chair Pilates is on Mondays only from 10:45 to 11:30am.

Balance Yoga is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15am.

Dance Aerobics will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. First class is from 8:30 to 9:15 am and the second class is from 10:45 to 11:30am. Please note there are 2 classes!

Yoga is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:45am to 12:30pm. 

Fusion is on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:45 to 11:30am.


The Behring Senior Center offers Drop-ins and Punch Cards for all exercise classes. If you want to “Drop-In” to a class, simply pay $4.00 for a 45-minute session. You can also purchase a punch card and save $1.00 per class. Please note the increase in price of the punch cards. Punch Cards are available for $30.00 for 10 classes or $55.00 for 20 classes. Because no registration is required, you can try out all of the different exercise classes you want. You can purchase Punch Cards at the Front Desk and/or Wellness Center Desk. You will have to fill out a liability waiver to participate in exercise classes. Call 325-3173 for more information.


CHAIR MASSAGE 

Dates: Fridays, April 1, and May 6 & 20 Cost: $20.00  Times: 9:30am to 1:00pm (20 minutes)

Melissa Kieler is a Massage Therapist at Healing Notes here in Monroe. You will pay Melissa directly the day of your appointment. She accepts cash or check.  If you need to cancel, please call NO LATER than Wednesday prior to your appointment so we can fill your spot with someone from our waiting list. FOOT CARE WITH JULIE

Dates: Tuesdays, April 5, 12, 26, and May 10, 17, & 24.   If you need to cancel, please call us at 325-3173 at least 24 hours in advance so we can fill your spot from our wait list.

Cost: $42.00 and you will pay Julie directly. (Please note price change)

Times: 8:00am to 4:00pm. Appointments are around 30 minutes.

Your feet will be soaked, your toenails will be clipped, and your heels and other rough areas will be exfoliated. You’ll also get a mini leg & foot massage, as well as a refreshing lemon mist.  

Senior Center Library is open on the 2nd floor, 8am-4pm Monday-Friday.  We have a table in the library for the returned books and puzzles.

Table Tennis (ping pong) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00pm. Players must wipe down paddles when done.   

Pool (Billiards) players get those pool sticks all chalked up and ready to go!

The pool hall will be open from 9am to 4pm. 


ATTENTION ALL PICKLEBALL PLAYERS!

We have 2 different levels:

Level 1: Beginner/Intermediate will be on Wednesdays & Fridays from 2pm to 4pm and limited to 8 players.

Level 2: Intermediate/Advanced will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 2pm to 4pm and also limited to 8 players. This is for the ones who want to play competitive games while having fun.  Please call 325-3173 or stop by to reserve your spot. 


CARDS 

Card games are at the Senior Center FROM 12:30 TO 3:30PM.  We are playing for fun and there are NO PRIZES. Please do not arrive early or stay late. Due to new cleaning protocols, all card games end at 3:30pm. Please wash your hands before playing. At this time, NO FOOD IS ALLOWED TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE BUILDING. Single-serve beverages are allowed. Mondays are Euchre, Tuesdays are Canasta and Horse & Pepper, Thursdays are for 500 and Yass.

Bingo with Aster & Flippo at the Senior Center.  You must sign up because there is a limit of only 30 people.                

* Bingo is Friday, April 8th at 1:30pm.  Aster will be giving away prizes.  Be sure to sign up for this event, remember space is limited, call 325-3173 soon. Registration starts Friday, April 1st at 8:00am.

* Flippo will be at 1:30pm on Friday, April 29th.  You have to bring your own deck of cards. Please sign up for this event.


MOVIES FOR MARCH 

First movie is Thursday, April 7th at 1:30pm.  Showing is “Red Notice”, Rated PG-13, Run time: 1 hour, 58 min.  The highest level of an issued warrant, Red Notice, sends the FBI’s top profiler John Hartley on the case. His global pursuit finds him right in the middle of a daring heist where he’s forced to partner with the world’s greatest art thief Nolan Booth in order to catch the world’s most wanted art thief, “The Bishop”.  The high-flying adventure takes the trio around the world, across the dance floor, trapped in a secluded prison, into the jungle, and constantly in each other’s company.

Second movie is Tuesday, April 19th at 1:30pm.  Showing is “Marry Me”, Rated PG-13, Run time: 1 hour, 52 min.  Marry Me is a romantic comedy focusing on an unexpected relationship being created in front of millions.  Kat Valdez and Bastian are superstars in the music industry, so much that the world plans to make an event out of their impending wedding.  However, things fall apart when Kat learns that Bastian has been unfaithful mere moments before the vows take place.  Making an abrupt choice, she picks a man in the crowd named Charlie, not realizing that he’s holding a “Marry Me” sign, and decides to follow the sign’s suggestion.

Third movie is Thursday, April 28th at 1:30pm.  Showing is “No Time for Sergeants”, Not Rated, Run time: 1 hour, 59 min.  Sergeant King thinks backwoods hillbilly-turned-new recruit Will Stockdale might be the dumbest private to ever join the Air Force. Somehow, all of King’s attempts to make Stockdale look foolish backfire, and one of them even finds the sergeant demoted to private by his superiors. Meanwhile, Stockdale squeaks through training and soon begins wreaking havoc in the skies.

COFFEE & CHAT BOOK CLUB

Our group will meet to discuss the book, “Code Girls”  by Liza Mundy

We will meet once a month to discuss the book while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.  You can still join us. Call 325-3173 to make sure you have a seat.

A Colorful Tour of the Emerald Isle

Medicare & Social Security    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS 

Date:  Wednesday, April 6th through the end of July, starting at 10:30am  

The Behring Senior Center will offer a general Question & Answer session on Medicare and Social Security every other Wednesday; April 6 & 20, May 4 & 18, June 1, 15, & 29, July 13 & 27.  You can bring all your questions to Nitza Pfaff who has vast knowledge and background on Medicare and Social Security.  You do not need an appointment! Just bring your questions, and she is happy to help!


Spring Fling   

Musical Performance by Top Shelf

Monday, May 9th at 1:30pm Cost: $5.00 per person

We’re getting ready for our Spring Fling, and we hope you will join in the fun!  It will be an afternoon filled with music, refreshments, and good company.  Tracy Jane Comer sings and plays the keyboard & guitar while her duo partner Alan Malowski sings and plays percussion.  They perform a lively mix of tunes including swing, jazz, country, rock ‘n roll, and show tunes.  Space is limited.  Registration begins at 8:00am on Wednesday, April 27th.   Call us at 325-3173 or stop by the front desk to sign up.

Quilts of Valor

A Quilt of Valor is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. Honor, Freedom, and Comfort are stitched into every quilt to honor his/her service and sacrifice. The next Quilts of Valor presentation will be at the Behring Senior Center on Wednesday, July 13th.  Please stop by the Senior Center front desk to pick up a request form. Mayflower Tours

Tuesday, June 7th at 1:00pm Mayflower Cruises and Tours will be at the Senior Center talking about their upcoming trips.  Call for a reservation, 325-3173.  Travel brochures, applications, and pricing will be available at the front desk mid-April.
