DARLINGTON - The Lafayette County Library Planning Committee, in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin-Extension in Lafayette County, has announced a list of activities promoting "Money Smart Month" in Lafayette County in April. Money Smart Month is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups.
Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the American Library Association and the Financial Planning Association.
Activities are planned for many Lafayette County communities. Local bankers, financial planners, teachers and community leaders from several communities will be volunteering their time to promote financial awareness.
Kicking off the month, Pam Hinderman and Mary Moore from First National Bank presented on financial education to the economics classes at Darlington High School Wednesday. Kim Havens of Havens Financial will give presentations on investments for Darlington High School economics students Wednesday.
The scheduled presentations in Lafayette County communities will be posted on The Monroe Times' Community Calendar, beginning with a "Senior Scams" presentation by Darlington police officer Tony Ruesga from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the meal-site in the Darlington Municipal Building. Other events will be at Hazel Green Public Library, Johnson Public Library in Darlington and Argyle Public Library.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the events. For more information, contact Mary Knellwolf at the UW-Extension office at 608-776-4820.
