MONROE — Tom Moore of Argyle will have a model railroad on display at the Green County Model Railroaders Show and Swap Meet at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 28, which will be held at the Monroe’s SLICE arena. This will be the 47th Green County Model Railroaders Show and Swap Meet.

Moore has been doing the final touches and repairs on his traveling train layout the past few weeks. Tom said some of the more gratifying parts of the hobby were learning wood working, electrical wiring, scenery construction, learning the history of railroads, and collecting the different models.

“But the best part of the hobby by far has been meeting and sharing stories with so many great people,” said Moore. “Thirty some years ago I did my first show with a small diorama of a round house and turn table.”

Several years later, the diorama turns into a 7-by-17-foot traveling layout that has been to Lena, Rockford, Delavan, Cassville, Dubuque and more. And he’s had a 30-year run of his own show in Argyle.

“In all, it has been a great 35-plus years of doing these shows and I hope that I can be doing this for many more years,” Moore said. “So come see our show and catch the fever and you too could enjoy a great hobby.”
