MMS to stage 'Sleeping Beauty' - with a twist

MONROE - The Golden Age of Hollywood comes to life, especially this weekend, when more than 60 Monroe Middle School students grades six to eight team up with two professional actors to present Prairie Fire Childrens' Theatre's original musical adaptation of the classic "Sleeping Beauty.'

Performances will take place on 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Monroe Middle School Auditorium on the second floor of the middle school. Enter the clock tower doors on the north side of the building. An elevator is available.

The show was written by PFCT Associate Director Megan K. Pence and veteran tour actor Daniel L. Stock. This unique version plays out on a movie set where everything seems to go wrong. It's lights out for the movie studio unless Sleeping Beauty can wake up and save the picture.

The cast and crew of MMS students include Maddie Schlueshe, Holly Morton, Ian Salzwedel, Jacob Kindschi, Monica Sefcik, Brianna Becker, Maija Liimatainen, Kyle Tanis, Christina Tuttle, Kari Werrline, Alli Leutenegger, Jeana LeGault, Abby Rielly, Javier Cifuentes, Anna Meritt, Lexi Bartels, Bailey Gruber, Carley Berndt, Hanna Henry, Makayla Bates, Kaitlyn Wardlow, Brittany Meinert, Gwen Ambrose, Jennifer Franson, Ally Schild, Amanda Braden, Alyssa Sinkule, Shannon Rabotski, Ellie Erb, Hannah Zweifel, Michaela Snider, Erica Johnson, Brooke Rowe, Brianna Farrey, Cassidy Pivonka, Michelle Offerdahl, Cheyenne Ambler, Jenna Crook, Chelsea Miller, Ronny Wenger, Andy Johnson, Cierra Thomas, Brenna Doherty, Cassidy McCoy, Brittany Hendrickson, Scott Foley, Zach Reynolds, Delaney Jacobson, Sadie Szabelski, Emily Lancaster, Madalin Zentner, Ciara Kaderly, Vicki Wood, Max Waller, Mitch Einbeck, Maddi Bauman, Jada Zimmerman, Kelsey Gilbertson, Meghan Peterson, Becky Kiser, and Gabby Schneider.

Prairie Fire Childrens' Theatre professionals Christine Martini and Chris Rosser co-direct "Sleeping Beauty" and will play the roles of a bumbling Hypnotist and the Queen Diva of all Stage Mothers.

Tickets are $3 per person and are available at the door. This Prairie Fire Childrens' Theatre residency is being supported by MMS, Gasthaus Motel, and ticket sales.
