BROWNTOWN — The 2019 Green County Breakfast on the Farm will take place from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Minder Family Farm, N2428 Allen Road, west of Browntown, off of Wisconsin 11. 

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Children 4 and under are free. 

This year marks the 40th edition of this annual event, featuring a farm breakfast, live musical entertainment by the Soggy Prairie Band, arts and crafts, educational displays, including an antique tractor display and wine and cheese pairings starring Browntown’s own Hawk’s Mill wine and cheeses made from the Minder’s milk by master cheesemakers at Chalet Cheese Cooperative. 

The Green County Ag Chest organizes the annual celebration with support from area businesses and individuals. 

The Minder Family Farm is owned and operated by Dave and Kathy Minder and their children, Matt, Austin and Molly. They are the third and fourth generations to farm the land and milk cows on the property. John Minder Sr. emigrated from Switzerland in 1912, settling in the Browntown area and purchasing the family homestead, which is designated a Century Farm.

The Minders currently milk 200 cows twice a day in a double-eight parlor and raise their own replacement heifers. The home farm includes 276 acres, but with additional rented land, the family crops 400 acres to feed their animals. Kathy Minder also works off the farm part-time at Monroe Clinic.

Over the years, the Minders have made improvements to the farm, including the addition of the 200-cow free stall barn and parlor to make the farming operation more labor efficient. The haymow of the family’s original milking barn will serve as the stage for the Soggy Prairie Band and the brief program hosted by The Fabulous Farm Babe Pam Jahnke, which will take place at 8:30 a.m.
