MONROE - The Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble of Monroe High School will present their spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the high school's Performing Arts Center. Alto saxophonist Allen Cordingley will join the Wind Ensemble as the evening's guest soloist.
Tickets will be available at the door on the evening of the performance at $3 for adults and $2 for students, with proceeds going toward music clinic scholarships. The public is invited.
Allen Cordingley will be the guest soloist for this concert. Cordingley teaches saxophone, music appreciation and directs the pep band at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Before joining the music faculty in the fall of 2007, he toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Other gigs have included performances with Frank Sinatra Jr., the Sammy Kaye Orchestra, Dave Holland Quintet, Bobby McFerrin and several cruises aboard Carnival Cruise Lines. As a concert saxophonist, he has performed with the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and with several saxophone quartets. He will be playing the "Fantasia for Alto Saxophone and Concert Band" by Claude T. Smith and Warren Barker's arrangement of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
The Wind Ensemble's portion of the evening is rounded out by "American Overture for Band" by Joseph Willcox Jenkins and "A Bernstein Tribute" adapted by Clare Grundman.
The Symphonic Band will perform "Symphony No. 40 in G Minor," arranged by Stephen Bulla, "Salvation is Created" arranged by Bruce H. Houseknecht, "Lids," a percussion feature by Ed Argeniziano; "Three Ayres from Gloucester" by Hugh M. Stuart and "River of Life" by Steven Reineke.
The Concert Band's program includes "Purple Pageant" by K.L. King; "Bloom" by Steven Bryant; "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," arranged by Ted Ricketts; and "Undertow" by John Mackey.
The Symphonic Band is directed by Brian Bruggeman. The Concert Band is lead by Dan Henkel and The Wind Ensemble's director is Randy Schneeberger.
