Mental health summit slated for Oct. 24

SINSINAWA — Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program is hosting a mental health summit from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Sinsinawa Mound Center, 585 County Z. The summit will feature initiatives currently going on in southwest Wisconsin. 

The keynote speaker will be Dave Gustafson, Professor Emeritus, UW School of Engineering.

A variety of topics will be presented: Client information sharing during mental health crises, trauma-informed communities and resilience outreach, improving community connections and reducing isolation with associational mapping, growing National Alliance on Mental Illness presence and programs in southwestern Wisconsin, and, a farmer resilience panel discussion. 

Midday there will be a preview performance of a segment of the play “Returning Home” about veterans. A group of law enforcement, mental health and emergency room professionals will speak about their efforts to change how to handle mental health crises. A new resource navigation tool for mental health and addiction will be unveiled. 

Afternoon break-outs include sessions on reducing stigma in communities, workplace mental health, navigating mental health resources and the NIATx systems improvement process.
