MONROE — The Green Prairie Cemetery Association will host its annual Memorial Day celebration at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 27 at Green Prairie Cemetery, on Postville Road about 3/4 of a mile north of the village of Postville between County H and A, west of County J. In case of rain the ceremony will be held in the York Town Hall in Postville.

Veterans will be honored of three wars who are buried in the cemetery area. In addition, learn about the family cemetery of John S. Stewart. Stewart and three family members are buried there. John was the first settler in York Township, arriving in Wisconsin in 1837. His grandson, John W. Stewart Jr., was instrumental in saving Green’s Prairie Cemetery in the 1920s.
