MONTICELLO - Joe Mellem of Monticello completed the "Benefit Auctioneer Specialist" course held earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada. This course is offered through the National Auctioneers Association and is designed to teach the planning techniques that create successful benefit auctions.

There were auctioneers from throughout the United States, Canada and South Africa attending the course. "Besides learning in the classroom, I also picked up a lot of useful information in visiting with other benefit auctioneers," said Mellem.

Mellem graduated from the World Wide College of Auctioneering in 2008, and is the current Wisconsin Novice Auctioneer Champion.

He works with Rod Johnson of Johnson Auctioneering in conducting benefit auctions throughout the Midwest.

Mellem runs the Wisconsin office for Johnson Auctioneering.

He and his wife Lisa live in Monticello and have two daughters, Carissa and Abigail
