MONROE - The topic of the Saturday meeting of the Green County Genealogical Society is "Clues in the Dress: Dating Photographs from Clothing."
Leslie Bellais, curator of social history at the Wisconsin Historical Society, will provide ways to date photographs and possibly figure out which ancestor is being portrayed, by illustrating ways to date the clothing in the images. She will cover men's and women's clothing as portrayed in photographs from the 1840s to the first decade of the 20th century. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs to try to date as she gives us the clues in the dress.
In the past 24 years, Bellais has curated exhibits in her area of expertise. In 2014, Bellais' title was changed to curator of social history, which expanded her areas of responsibility to other artifacts related to domestic life and women's history.
The Green County Genealogical Society meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the second floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library. The event is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. For more information, call 815-868-2416 or 608-921-1537.
