MONROE — During the Green County Fair, 4-H and FFA youth participated in the Green County meat animal auctions. A total of 77 lots were sold in the fur and feather auction that includes rabbits, ducks, turkeys and chickens. The bids totaled approximately nearly $20,000, all designated toward supporting youth projects.
The livestock auction consisted of 156 lots including swine, goats, lambs and steers. The overall bids totaled approximately $262,000. The average price paid per pound for lambs was $5.30, up from $4.17 last year; the average price paid per pound for steers was $2.87, up from $2.42 last year, and the average price paid per pound for swine was $4.78, up from $4.11 last year.
Over 250 buyers in Green County and the surrounding area attended the auctions and bid on animals to support projects from the 4-H and FFA youth. For more information on the auctions, contact the Green County University of Wisconsin-Extension office at 328-9440.
