MONROE — The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association will be conducting their annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18 at a new location this year, the Green County Fairgrounds, Barn 7, 2600 10th St., Monroe.
The plant sale is an opportunity for area residents to purchase hardy zone 4 perennials, herbs and annual plants that have been grown locally by Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Started vegetable plants, houseplants and unique plants will all be available as well as several handcrafted garden use items.
The Green County Master Gardeners Association uses the proceeds from this plant sale to distribute scholarships to Green County area youth who are enrolled, or planning to enroll, in secondary education in a horticulture related field of study. Funds are also used for other Master Gardener Educational Events including seminars, bus tours or garden events.
Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to help select plants to fit gardening needs. Master Gardener volunteers are trained by UW-Extension specialists to assist the public with garden and horticulture related questions and also provide thousands of hours of volunteer hours to community projects through Green County each year.
There are currently over 30 Master Gardener Volunteers available to help answer gardening, turf, shrub, fruits, prairie and other horticulture questions through the Extension office in Green County by calling 608-328-9440.
