MONROE - The Green County Master Gardeners Association is presenting its 10th annual gardening symposium March 11.
"Garden Inspirations for All Seasons: No Fear Gardening - Tips and Techniques You've Been Afraid to Try" will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Peppercorn Banquets at the Ludlow Mansion, 1421 Mansion Drive, Monroe. The public event is for both experienced and novice gardeners. Paid registration will include lunch, refreshments and resource materials.
The symposium will help relieve the reservations of a new gardening technique or planting. It will encourage new techniques, put gardening fears to ease and provide some fun along with new gardening knowledge. A silent auction and door prizes also will be included.
The symposium will include several speakers and topics:
Dennis Anderson of Paradigm Gardens of Madison will show efficient, simple "water" home-growing systems.
Kyle Aurit of Bailey's Nursery will discuss growing easy-grow roses without pricking a finger.
Dan Cunningham of Fiskars has invented and designed a number of garden products for Fiskars. Learn from him how to choose the right tool for the job.
Matt Zielinski, owner of Backyard Havens Gardens and Landscaping, will provide techniques to keep shrubs under control.
Tanna McKeon, Green County Master Gardener, will share her expertise on plant propagation, including starting cuttings and slips from plants.
Participants from the general University of Wisconsin-Extension master gardening training classes and certified members live in all areas of Green County. Part of their mission is to support gardeners and communities with information and resources. UW-Extension master gardener volunteers are available to assist homeowners with their horticulture questions through the Green County extension office.
Early registration for the annual symposium is $35 and closes on March 1. After March 1, the price goes up to $40 for late registration and walk-ins. More information is available through the Green County UW-Extension by calling 608-328-9440 or checking the website at green.uwex.edu.
