Master gardener meeting focuses on daylilies
Community Brief

MONROE — Those interested in learning more about flowers and daylilies should attend the next Green County Master Gardeners Association meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Green County Justice Center, multi-purpose room, 2841 6th Street, Monroe.

Daylilies are a flowering plant that comes in many varieties, colors, sizes and styles. What most people recognize as the common orange daylily was growing wild in Asia during the time of Confucius and is an ancestor of modern daylilies. Now there are almost 90,000 registered cultivars, in a myriad of sizes, forms and colors.

Carole Hunter, from Prairie’s Edge Gardens will present at the meeting. Carole is a fledgling hybridizer located in Rockford, Illinois. Her focus is northern hardy plants that rebloom with minimal care.

The Green County Master Gardeners Association meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from February through October. Anyone interested in horticulture and gardening may join and does not have to be a master gardener to become a member. For more information on the Extension Master Gardener program, contact Jackie McCarville, Green County UW-Extension at 608-328-9440.
