BELOIT — In recognition of Pride month this June, several local organizations have planned a variety of events in Rock County to celebrate. From an LGBTQ+ comedy show to a day with games and food in the park for the entire family, the events run throughout the month of June.
“Pride month is a way to celebrate the unique and amazing people in the LGBTQ+ community. What began as protests against the mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ community in 1969 in New York City has flourished into a celebration of inclusivity, equality, and acceptance,” said Stephanie Hormig, LGBTQ+ Survivor Advocate for Family Services of Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, Inc. “By embracing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging, Pride events not only empower individuals but also inspire social change. We firmly believe that everyone deserves to live their truth authentically, and the Pride events aim to create a more inclusive and accepting society for all.”
