MONROE — After serving two full terms on Main Street Monroe’s board of directors, a handful of board members are transitioning to new roles, with new members of the business community taking their place.

Amy Timmerman, principal at Northside Elementary, Tammie Jamiska, community outreach specialist at Monroe Clinic, and Steve Moon, Colony Brands all joined Main Street’s board of directors.

“Having lived in Monroe most of my life I’ve seen the positive impact Monroe Main Street has had on this community. I’m very happy to join the Monroe Main Street Board to support and hopefully build on the momentum built up to make downtown fun and interesting. Whether though concerts, farmers’ markets, or kids’ events like Trunk or Treat, I want to help keep downtown the heart of Monroe,” Moon said on his reason for joining.

Andy Hill (Mitek) who served as board president since 2015 will now be chairing Main Street’s Organization Committee. This committee is responsible for volunteer recruitment, fundraising efforts and promotion of the organization as a whole. In this capacity, he will be working with a standing volunteer committee that reports to the board of directors and works directly with Jordan Nordby, executive director of the organization.

His position as president of the board of directors will be filled by Amy Burdick (10th Avenue Soapworks) who has previously been involved with the farmers market and has served as an at-large board member since 2017. Kristi Smith (Rainbow Confections/SBDC/Fudgeraiser) will also be off the board following one full term, but intends to remain involved in the organization in different capacities.

“We’re truly a volunteer driven organization and it’s so heartening to have board members who are committed to not only setting policy, but actually being boots on the ground in different capacities,” Nordby said.

Nordby was emphatic on the contributions outgoing board members have had on the organization and highlighted the longstanding support Colony Brands and Monroe Clinic have given Main Street.

“Amy (Timmerman) joining is a direct link to the school district, which speaks to the work Main Street does and its impacts throughout the entire community,” Nordby said.

Remaining board members are Orion McCarty (Monroe Golf Club), Mickey Beam (City of Monroe representative), JoAnne Leuenberger (JoAnne’s Dress Shop), Jean Sinkule (Sugar River Bank – Monroe Branch) and Tom Miller (Industrial Combustion).
