MONROE — With a focus on celebrating the creativity found throughout the county, Main Street Monroe will host a new event this fall. The Monroe Art Walk will be held at different businesses throughout the downtown district, with each hosting a different artist. It is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In keeping with Main Street’s events, the event is being coordinated by a volunteer group consisting of shop owners, existing volunteers, and longtime residents.

“Historically, Monroe, WI has been home to many creatives and their families and is known for nurturing artistic spirit,” said Tina Duemler, a Monroe artist and committee member. “The area inspires art makers. Let’s highlight and celebrate these artists and their wonderful works. At the same time, we want to show off our wonderful historic Square, area businesses and the newly renovated Court House.”

Approximately 20 stores have already signed up to be a part of the event. Spaces will range from window space to entire storefronts depending on the store and artists it’s paired with for the day. Participating shops include Toy Haus, JoAnne’s Dress Shop, and Orange Kitten Yarns. Jocelyn Kline, owner of Orange Kitten Yarns, is part of the organizing committee. Artists will handle their own sales, with 100% going to the artists. Kline emphasized that they are looking for a range of mediums and sizes for the event and at varied price points for accepted artists. Art can be 2D or 3D: photography, jewelry, fiber art, for example.

Interested applicants have until June 15 to apply. Two to three judges will be reviewing submissions with accepted artists being notified (including location) in the following weeks.

For the event itself, maps will be provided for those attending the free event. Lastly, a community voted People’s Choice Art Award will also be awarded.

Interested artists must be 18 years or older and reside in the county. Applications, which include submitting images of artwork only and contact information, can be found by contacting Main Street Monroe via email at

monroemainstreet@tds.net or by phone at 608.328.4023 or visiting Orange Kitten Yarns (1613 10th Street) on the north side of the square. There is no fee to apply. However, accepted applicants will pay a $45 exhibit fee to help cover event costs.
