MAC to annual photo contest, exhibit

MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center is sponsoring its 21st annual photo contest and exhibit featuring the best shots of favorite sites, people, pets, landscapes, or wildlife. Photographs entered in the contest will be on exhibit in the MAC Frehner Gallery from Sept. 3-24. An opening reception and awards presentation for this exhibit is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, in the gallery.

The contest offers two separate classifications: Junior (under 18) and Adult. Participants may enter up to two photographs. This year's contest and exhibit will feature three categories: Landscape, Portraits, and Unclassified.

Participants may enter no more than two categories and a total of two photographs. All photographs must have been taken after Jan. 1, 2009. They must be a minimum of 8 by 10, a maximum of 16 by 20, and must be framed and suitable for hanging in MAC's Frehner Gallery.

First-, second-, and third-place ribbons will be given in each category and classification based on merit and number of entrants. Cash awards for the adult classification are $125, Best of Show; $75, first runner-up; and $50, second runner-up. Cash awards for the junior classification are $50, Best of Show $30, first runner-up; and $20, second runner-up.

The entry fee is $20 per photographer and the deadline to enter is Friday, Aug. 20. Participants are not required to be Wisconsin residents.
