Final MAC concert Sept. 1

MONROE — Spectators can bring their blankets and picnic baskets to the Monroe Arts Center for the final concert of the summer outdoor series, to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 1. The concert is free and open to the public.

Performing will be Madison’s own Grupo La Septima Alianza, who will heat things up with their fresh and modern take on Latin tropical and regional Mexican music. They play a variety of music such as Cumbia (folkloric rhythm and dance from Colombia), Nortena (Mexican music from Northern Mexico), Quebradita (a Mexican dancing and music style), and Zapateada (dance styles of Mexico), with a lively rhythm punctuated by the striking of the dancer’s shoes).

“We do not want to focus on just one kind of music, because our Latino community is very diverse in musical tastes,” said the group’s director.

Boxed dinners from Pancho and Lefty’s will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
