MAC holds auditions for 'A Christmas Carol'

MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will hold open auditions for a radio show production of the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," to be broadcast by Big Radio in December.

Anyone interested in providing voices for the characters of this well-known story may audition from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, or from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St. Children are asked to audition from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

All roles are open and there are no age or experience restrictions. Memorization of the script is not essential. A good speaking and character voice, as well as diction are needed for this production. Those auditioning are urged to prepare multiple character voices, and be ready to read from the script provided. Scripts are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

People may present extra material at their audition, but it is not required. Anyone auditioning is asked to bring a photo of themselves, which will be used for the director's reference.

"A Christmas Carol Radio Show" has been adapted by and will be directed by Richard Hilger, whose professional theater career has spanned more than 25 years. He is a former principal at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, playing Bob Cratchit and Scrooge, among numerous other roles.

This radio show will capture the sounds of the best of old-time radio theater. The production is in partnership with Monroe Theater Guild.
