Lottery Credit Awareness Week underway
wisconsin lottery

MONROE — The Green County Treasurer’s office, in conjunction with the Wisconsin County Treasurers’ Association, and supported by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, is declaring the week of May 13 to 17 as Lottery Credit Awareness Week.

The Lottery and Gaming Credit is a reduction on a real estate tax bill.

To qualify for the lottery and gaming credit, the property owner must be a Wisconsin resident and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date, Jan. 1.

If temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than 6 months (hospital, vacation, incarcerated, etc.), it is the home to which the property owner returns.

A property owner can claim only one primary residence [sec.79.10 (1) (dm), (9) (bm), Wis. Stats.]. Rental properties are not eligible for the Lottery and Gaming Credit.

Green County Treasurer Sherri Hawkins recommends all eligible property owners review their 2018 real estate tax bill to verify they received the lottery credit.

Last year the average lottery credit in Green County was approximately $183. The amount of the credit is based upon the school district in which your home is located.

To determine if you received the credit on your last tax bill, visit www.co.green.wi.gov and on the left side of the web page click on Departments; Treasurer and scroll near the bottom. Please click on the Lottery Credit Instructions.

In order to receive the Lottery Credit, owners must have a signed application form on file with the county treasurer.

If an eligible property owner did not receive the lottery credit on a 2018 tax bill, the treasurer’s office can assist in filing the 2018 Late Lottery Claim Form with the Department of Revenue.

If not a resident of a property on Jan. 1, 2018 but as of Jan. 1, the treasurer’s office will assist in completing a Lottery & Gaming Application to ensure the credit will be applied to the 2019 property tax bill.
