MONROE — Madison musician, songwriter and storyteller Ken Lonnquist returns to the MAC stage with a celebration of all things Wisconsin from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 9 at Monroe Arts Center.
Lonnquist’s program “Wiscons-in-song” is filled with musical portraits of Wisconsin’s folklore and natural places. He sings and tells tales about the delights of life among the cheeseheads. And, of course, his show wouldn’t be complete without a song or two about the Packers, and the food which is in a group by itself — cheese.
Lonnquist has performed all throughout the U.S. and has won the Best of Madison Gold Award as a children’s musician, along with recognition from Audubon, Parents’ Choice, American Library Association, Booklist, Children’s Music Web, Parents Guide to Children’s Media and others. In addition, he has composed 15 full-scale musicals for the Children’s Theater of Madison. His charm, energy and uplifting spirit always remain the heart of his work and his hilarious original tunes and sharp comedic wit are a favorite of both children and adults.
Madison composer, performer and multi-instrumentalist Doug Brown will join Lonnquist for this musical tribute to Wisconsin. His compositions have been heard at regional theaters including American Players Theater where he was a resident musician and composer throughout the 1980s.
This performance is free and open to the public and is the second of three programs in Monroe Arts Center’s 2019-20 Family and Kids Series. This one-hour event is recommended for families with children in 4th through 7th grade and will be held in MAC’s Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th Street, Monroe.
