Local youth compete in county land judging contest

MONROE - The 2010 Green County Land Judging Contest was held Tuesday, July 13, at the Greg and Marie Gogin farm north of Monroe.

The York 4-H club, as well as FFA chapters from: Cashton, Cassville, Cuba City, Hillsboro, Jefferson, Kickapoo, Lancaster, Milton, Monroe, Monticello, Platteville, Potosi and River Ridge participated. A total of 83 youth participated in the contest.

Top individual was Cole Mish, Potosi. Tom Jenson, Monroe placed second and Josh Dank, Hillsboro placed third.

In team results, Hillsboro placed first, River Ridge second, Cashton third, Monroe fourth and Potosi fifth.

The Newell B. Smith award went to Travis Gilson of York 4-H. The competition is for 4-H students in the judging of residential, transportation and recreational land use.

Jeff Deniger of the Natural Resources Conservation Service was the official judge of the contest.
