MONROE - The first Green County Emergency Management severe weather/tornado spotters' class will be held at 12:30 p.m. April 30 at the Monroe Fire Department No. 1, 601 W. 17th St., by Badger State Ethanol, with the next class at 6:30 p.m. at the South Wayne Fire Department, 107 E. Center St.

Tim Halbach, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service, will be instructing the classes.

The classes will be split in two sections: The first hour will focus on severe weather safety with an emphasis on severe weather in Wisconsin, sources for weather warnings and different scenarios on natural disasters. The second hour will focus on the kinds of weather events that should be reported, how they are reported, why the National Weather Service needs spotters and more.

Attendees can choose to attend one or both sessions.

One weather radio will be given away at the end of each class.

The free classes are open to all first responders and the general public. No registration is needed. Additional resources to help get prepared for the storm season can be found at Green County Emergency Management's website at www.greencountyem.com and on Facebook.
