DARLINGTON - In recognition of National EMS Week 2009, Rural Medical Ambulance Service personnel will host their annual open house and picnic from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at their headquarters on E. Louisa Street in Darlington. Members will be serving up pork and turkey sandwiches, cheese, beans, chips, coleslaw and more to visitors. There is no cost for the meal, but donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated.
In addition to ambulance tours, equipment displays, and door prizes, visitors have the opportunity to undergo a free stroke risk assessment screening between the hours of 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Rural Medical personnel will partner with Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, the Lafayette County Health Department, and Family Health of Lafayette County to offer these risk factor assessments because everyone is at risk for a stroke and members want area residents to know early recognition of warning signs and symptoms is critical to positive patient outcome. The assessment will include a blood pressure and pulse check, glucose level check, cholesterol exam, and a follow up action plan.
