MONROE - Local author and farmer Lisa Kivirist of Inn Serendipity Farm and B&B in Browntown will be at the Monroe Public Library Wednesday. Kivirist, author of "Soil Sisters: A Toolkit for Women Farmers," will be joined by other local female farmers at 6 p.m. for a reception with food tasting and resource sharing.

Attendees can get ideas for their gardens and farms from the experts. At 6:30 p.m., Kivirist will speak about the transformative power of women in farming and community food systems.

Kivirist is a senior fellow and endowed chair in agricultural systems at the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Minnesota, focusing on developing opportunities to champion leadership development among female farmers and rural women. Her new book compiles advice, support and resources from over 100 women in the sustainable agriculture movement.

She founded and leads the Rural Women's Project of the Midwest Organic Sustainable Education Service, an award-winning initiative championing female farmers and food-based entrepreneurs with a focus on networking opportunities.
