WEST ALLIS - Wisconsin State Fair park officials announced their first poster competition for 2014. The Wisconsin State Fairtastic Poster Competition is a way to celebrate and engage local and statewide artisan talent and showcase their work during the 2014 Wisconsin State Fair, presented by U.S. Cellular, which will take place July 31 through Aug. 10.

The Wisconsin State Poster Competition entries is open to all interested Wisconsin artists ages 18 and older who have a passion for the Wisconsin State Fair. The winning poster will be displayed during the 2014 Wisconsin State Fair and featured on a commemorative poster available for purchase during the fair and online.

To submit art into the competition, entrants must submit a first draft sketch of their entry that features the "Wisconsin State Fair experience." The concept is open to interpretation, but may include a showcase of rides and games, a specific activity or place, a favorite animal, delicious food or other memorable traditions. Entrants will also be asked to submit several portfolio items that demonstrate their artistic ability, and all entries must be two-dimensional art.

The top four works of art will be selected by a panel of judges and the top four artists will be awarded a $400 stipend to complete a second draft. A second rounding of judging will take place to review the second drafts and conduct personal interviews with each of the top four finalists to determine the winner. That artist will then receive a $1,000 cash prize upon the completion of the final artwork.

The Grand Champion of the Wisconsin State Fair Poster Competition will be announced June 11. Poster and postcard recreations of the winning artwork will be available for purchase at the 2014 State Fair, as well as online before and after the Fair, while supplies last. All proceeds from poster and postcard sales will support the Wisconsin State Fair Park Foundation.

First draft submissions for the inaugural art poster competition must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4. A complete set of competitions rules are available at WiStateFair.com. For more information, contact Jill Albanese at jill.albanese@wistatefair.com.
