MONROE - The Literacy Council of Green County is celebrating International Literacy Day in an effort to raise attention and awareness of the importance of literacy.
The council is participating in the launch of Wisconsin Literacy's Statewide READ of "Hot Dogs and Hamburgers: Unlocking Life's Potential by Inspiring Literacy at Any Age" by Rob Shindler on Sept. 8, with a family potluck. The Statewide READ is a new program to bring attention to the need for more literacy tutors in Green County.
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Union Presbyterian Church, 2707 5th St. Those who attend should bring a dish to share.
The potluck is an opportunity to learn about the Literacy Council and become involved in helping others reach their goals in learning English.
