Lifesaving training offered

MONROE - Red Cross lifeguard training will be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 through Saturday, Aug. 4.

Participants must be 15 years or older, on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Certification requirements include attending all classes, demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities and correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions on the three sections of the final exam. Upon successful completion, participants will receive their lifeguarding/first aid certification valid for three years and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer valid for two years.

Classes will be held at the pool at Recreation Park and the Community Center. The cost for the class is $100 for residents and $125 for non-residents.

The Red Cross Guard Start class is for 13- and 14-year-olds interested in lifeguarding. This course provides a foundation of lifeguarding and is offered from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 30 through Wednesday, Aug. 1. Classes will be held at the outdoor pool at Recreation Park. The cost for the course is $30 for residents and $40 non-residents.
