MONROE - Monroe Public Library is offering workshops on finding and applying for jobs online on two dates this month. The first workshop session will be from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the library and the second session, a repeat of the first, will be offered from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30.

Both workshop sessions will be taught by John Harris, a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Trainer, and a computer coach on Comcast television network airing in the Chicago area where he provides guidance on Internet searching and safety.

"This is an opportunity to receive online job search training by someone who is an expert on Internet searching and who knows how to make a workshop a relaxed and fun experience," Library Director Barbara Brewer said.

During the first approximately 45 minutes of the workshop sessions, the instructor will focus on where to find announcements of a wide variety of jobs online.

The last two hours will be set aside for those who want to stay to actually look for and apply for jobs online while the instructor is present to answer questions and offer one-to-one support as time permits.

Those who attend the first 45 minutes may stay for any length of time during the last two-hour period. Walk-ins are also welcome during the last two-hour period, as space and time permit.

Space is limited for both workshop sessions to approximately 20 participants on a first come, first served basis. The workshop sessions offered on separate days will cover the same topics; however, those who want to attend sessions on both days to reinforce learning or to acquire additional instructor assistance are welcome to take the workshop twice as space permits.

A limited number of library laptops will be available for use by those who want to stay after the first 45-minute session to look for and to apply for jobs. Personal laptops may also be brought to use with the library's wireless connection.

Both the 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. session on Saturday, Dec. 19, and the 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. session on Wednesday, Dec. 30, will be held in the library's second-floor meeting room. Courtesy beverages and snacks will be available during the last two hours.

The two workshop sessions on searching and applying for jobs online are sponsored by Monroe Public Library with funding provided in part by a Library Services and Technology grant distributed through South Central Library System.
