MONROE - The Youth Services Department of the Monroe Public Library announces Baby Storytime with Grandma Carol, a new early literacy program for our youngest listeners. Baby Storytime will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3 in the Monroe Public Library meeting room. Baby Storytime will be held on the first and fourth Mondays of each month.
Parents, grandparents and caregivers and their babies are invited to the first gathering of Baby Storytime. Siblings are welcome to attend and may want to bring a soft toy or teddy bear to share in the activities. There is no charge for Baby Storytime and registration is not required. Children of all abilities are welcome to attend Baby Storytime.
Carol Kamps, an experienced grandmother, will lead the 15-minute program which will be filled with rhymes, songs, and activities for babies up to 18 months old. Each program will include a book-sharing time and an opportunity for adults and babies to explore and talk about displays of posters and other objects. "And it will be fun," Kamps said. "There will be lots of bouncing rhymes and songs, a few books, and time to enjoy being together. I think adults will have just as much fun as the babies."
The research shows that babies learn best through interaction with loving adults. Baby Storytime will focus on adult and child activities like singing, playing, and talking with baby; activities that support the language, cognitive, and physical development of the child during these important first years.
