Library to feature 'cool' summer movie series

MONROE - Summer fun continues at the Monroe Public Library with Cool Movies for Hot Days, a series of movies for children.

Shown on the big screen with Dolby surround sound in an air-conditioned space, the programs are free and no registration is needed. The library will supply one bag of free popcorn for each viewer, floor pillows or beanbag chairs, and a beverage. Door prizes will be awarded to five recipients at each movie.

The 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, movie will be the Disney production featuring the goldfish named Ponyo. "Ponyo" will delight your family with its magnificent animation and timeless story. All ages are welcome for this 100-minute G-rated film.

Older viewers won't want to miss the recent DVD release based of the book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney. The movie will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 18. The funny, best-selling book comes to life in this family comedy. Character Greg Heffley is headed for big things, but first he has to survive the scariest, most humiliating experience of any kid's life-middle school. The movie is rated PG and will run about 90 minutes.

The Monroe Public Library is located at 925 16th Ave., Monroe.

The building is handicapped accessible and parking is available in the lot behind the building or the municipal parking ramp across the street.
