SHULLSBURG - Friends of the Shullsburg Public Library, Shullsburg, will sponsor their annual used book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Townsend Community Center in conjunction with the Shullsburg Cheese Fest. A new feature is the "Friday for Friends" sale from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, for members of the Friends of the Library. That means members get first pick of all the books for sale before the doors open to the public on Saturday.
Hundreds of books are collected and put on sale for book hounds and readers of all ages to snag great bargains. Prices range from 25 cents to $1, with a special $3 "all-you-can-stuff in a grocery bag" sale beginning at noon on Saturday. In addition, the Shullsburg Creamery will match dollar for dollar any money that is raised during the book sale, which they are doing for the second year in a row.
New and used books can be donated right up until the day of the event. However, it's preferred that interested people bring their books to the library prior to the event during regular library hours: noon-8 p.m. on Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, 2-6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday. Donations are tax deductible and a receipt can be obtained.
"We appreciate everyone's contribution to this event," adds Heim. "The Friends really appreciate the commitment and generous donations and public participation of our events. We could not accomplish our goals in supporting the community's library without them and the wonderful volunteers who give so unselfishly."
For more information on donating books or on the sale, interested people can contact the library at (608) 965-4424, ext. 5. Volunteers are also being asked to help staff the event as well.
Money from the event will be used to continue to buy equipment, books, DVD's and materials for the library, in addition to funding other projects for continual library improvements.
The Friends of the Shullsburg Public Library is a volunteer group that was founded in 2001 to establish closer relations between the Shullsburg Public Library and the people that it serves and to promote informed interest in its functions, resources, services and needs.
