MONROE - Registration begins Monday, June 4 for Dream Big - Read, a summer of programs for all ages at the Monroe Public Library.

Participants may register online at the library's website, www.monroepubliclibrary.org, or in person at the library. Participants can join the program at any time during the summer.

Following the success of the Early Bird program, the Monroe Public Library will once again offer the early literacy program for babies and toddlers to age 3. Early Birds encourages parents and caregivers to read to their little ones, share songs and rhymes, and practice early literacy skills. Baby Time and Toddler Time Early Literacy story times will continue through the summer for this age group.

The Reading Explorers program is for preschool and kindergarten children. By reading with an adult or older reader a little each day, Reading Explorers may earn a weekly prize; books and book bags, animal caps, and an assortment of active toys.

Readers entering first through fifth grades may participate in the Dream Big - Read summer incentive program. Young readers are encouraged to read for fun a little each day, fill in their reading records, and earn prize coupons.

Special events are scheduled for all age groups. Registration is now being taken for the first Wild Wednesday Workshop for Dream Big Readers. The Space Camp Adventure workshop at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, will feature an Astronaut Skills Test, Create an Alien craft, and a taste of genuine space food.

The library will host the Incredible Bats program at 1:30 p.m. or 2:45 p.m. Friday, July 20. Sharon Peterson will share her knowledge of bats and the audience will have the opportunity to meet live Egyptian Fruit Bats after each program.

The teen Summer Library Program for 2012 is called Own the Night. Student entering sixth through ninth grades will be reading for fun and earning prizes as well as tickets to the end-of-summer Mardi Gras-style party.

New to the Monroe Public Library this year is Between the Covers, a reading program for adults and high school students. Participants will read and rate their favorite summer books and enter a weekly drawing for prizes.
