MONROE - The National Association of Letter Carriers, in partnership with the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Rural Letter Carriers, is asking residents to help "Stamp out Hunger" on May 14.
"Stamp out Hunger" is the largest single-day food drive in the U.S. This year marks the annual food drive's 23rd year, and the 70 million pounds of food collected nationwide last year brought the total collected to more than 1.2 billion pounds. Last year was a record-breaking year in Monroe, with more than 9,600 pounds of food collected and taken to the Green County Food Pantry.
Blue plastic bags will be delivered with the mail the week before the food drive. Place non-perishable food items in the provided bags and leave them by your mailbox on May 14; letter carriers will make sure that all are donated directly to the Green County Food Pantry.
