LENA - The Lena Sons of the American Legion will be hosting its annual Benefit Day Saturday at Coach's Golf and Grill on Stagecoach Trail. The day starts off with the ninth annual benefit ride through northwest Illinois and southwest Wisconsin.
While this ride is normally for motorcycle enthusiasts, it is open to all modes of transportation. Sign-up starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. After a 148-mile tour to various locations, the riders will start to return at 4 p.m. and will be served a pulled-pork meal with all the sides. The cost for the event is $20 and numerous prizes will be awarded to the participants.
Also starting at 9 a.m. will be the opening of the Illinois Traveling Memorial Wall honoring the men and women of Illinois who have died while on duty since the inception of the Gulf War. There will be several presentations during the day honoring these individuals by various veterans organizations in the area. There is no admission to this event, but there will be merchandise available for purchase, and Lena Sons of the American Legion annual raffle tickets will be available. Donations are also welcome.
At 11:30 a.m., Coach's Golf and Grill, along with the Lena American Legion Auxiliary, will start serving pulled-pork sandwich meals including chips, baked beans and fresh fruit. The cost for the meal is $5 and will be served until 2 p.m.
Starting at 6 p.m., live, musical entertainment will be provided by the Rockabilly Junction band playing classic rock 'n roll. There will be a break in the entertainment for a formal closing of the Memorial Wall with an Honor Guard presentation provided by the Lena American Legion Post 577 at 7 p.m.
Proceeds raised during the day will be used to assist the Lena Sons of the American Legion in their donations to the following causes and events: Illinois American Legion Boys State, Illinois American Legion Girls State, American Legion Baseball, Honor Flight Network and the Wounded Warrior Project.
