LENA - The Northwest Illinois Aerial Combat Memorial Committee was notified March 1 that the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, Federal Surplus Property division has, along with the General Services Administration, approved their application to take possession of an F-4 Phantom II fighter-bomber for use as part of a veterans' memorial to be established in Lena.
The committee will be meeting at 7 p.m. March 19 at the American Legion, 318 W. Main St. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the approval of the committee's application and begin the process of seeking volunteers, donations and public advice.
Dennis Bergman, president of the Lena Village Board, has stated that he was elated when being advised of the application's approval and pledged his support and the support of the village. Several people who have been involved in this effort will be present.
