Lafayette County youth participate in the state fair

DARLINGTON - Nearly 60 youth from Lafayette County will participate in the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair, held in West Allis through Aug. 10 this year. Lafayette County will have youth participating in the Clothing Delegation, Dairy Show, Beef Show, Swine Show, Sheep Show, Showcase Singers, Youth Mini Performances and the Youth Exhibit areas.

Participants in the youth exhibit area will include: George Olthafer, Gus Olthafer, Kayla Doan, Molly Doan, Sara Doan, Brandi Voigts, Kassi Kamps, Keegan Kamps, and Kara Kamps of Belmont; Darby Fitzsimons, Jenna Hole, LeeAnn Kurschner, Brett Jones, April Brandt, Shai Rowe, Cole Trumble, Jordan Riley, Ashley Riley, Ashley Martin, Christa Wamsley, Cole Whalen, Kayla Lange, Tyler Berget, Andy Turpin, and Maddie Gallagher of Darlington; Jodi Fischer and Kelsey Ostby of Argyle; and Marissa Monson, Aaron Monson, Olivia Holland, Meshell Akins, D'elaine Bejgier, Adam Moore, and Thad Brenum of Gratiot/South Wayne area. These youth have their exhibits on display from through August 10 in the Wisconsin Exposition Center.

Sixteen Lafayette County youth were among the state youth who exhibited their dairy animals at Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Show, July 31-August 3. The dairy exhibitors were Katie Wallenhorst, Ashley Sullivan, Breana and Rebeka Dieter of Cuba City; Shane Nodolf of Belmont; Jeremy Calvert, Kyle Calvert, Cody Carpenter, Colton Carpenter and Tyler Shager of Darlington; Jackie Dammen, Jeannie Dammen and Tracy Dammen of Argyle; and Jakobi Dammen, Adam Moore and Alex Abraham of South Wayne/Gratiot area.

Sara Doan of Belmont will be performing with the Showcase Singers. This group has traveled around the state for the summer, performing at different events. The group will be performing several times over the duration of the fair.

Emma Berget, Darlington, and Kayla Clayton, Belmont, represented Lafayette County at the State Fair Clothing Revue, August 2-4. They were selected as State Fair delegates at the Lafayette County Clothing Preview, held in June.

Sara Doan, Belmont, will be participating in the mini performances at State Fair. She will perform on the Youth Stage in the Wisconsin Exposition Center. She was selected at 4-H Day in the Arts and was nominated by judges and Extension Educator Jessie Potterton to perform at State Fair.

Twenty-seven youth from the county are competing in the beef, sheep, and swine shows at State Fair, held August 4-7. Youth that will exhibit beef include: Miles Weigel, Bekka Lee, Bryant Schobert, Chelsey Schobert, Kaley Bockhop, Belmont; Rebeka Dieter, Cuba City; Tayton Stolee, Argyle; Emma Berget, Tyler Berget, Justin Wedig, Mykel Wedig, Mitchell Wedig and Levi Wedig, Darlington; Courtney Buskee, Platteville; and Greg Leahy and Maureen Leahy, Shullsburg. Sheep exhibitors include Courtney Lobdell of Darlington; Kirk Brenum, South Wayne/Gratiot area; Shane Nodolf, Belmont; and Tierney Reilly and Calvin Reilly, Shullsburg. Lafayette County swine exhibitors include: Emma Berget and Tyler Berget of Darlington; Cameron Carey, Tyler Dornink, Kolten Bartell and Tia Niffenegger, Belmont; Tayton Stolee, Argyle; Tierney Reilly and Calvin Reilly, Shullsburg; and Josh Lowe and James McDonald of South Wayne/Gratiot.

Chaperones from Lafayette County supporting and supervising the youth throughout their stay included: Aaron Abraham, Darlington, for dairy; and Jeff Berget, South Wayne and Lori Berget, Darlington, for beef, sheep and swine. Thank you to them for volunteering their time!

Take a trip to State Fair and cheer on the Lafayette County youth.
